Sonic cleaning

I have a silencerco omega and I want to clean it in a sonic cleaner. I guess my question is this.... can I wrap the silencer in Teflon tape and then run it through the sonic cleaner? This way maybe the cerakote finish won't be damaged. I know rifle silencers clean themselves but I am anal about cleaning gun parts and I want It shiny. I'm about ready to try this can anyone talk me out of this?

Aluminum parts and coatings will likely suffer damage in ultrasonic cleaners.

Well the silencerco omega has no aluminum anywhere in the design. Also I have never heard of anyone trying to mask coatings with tape for protection and Teflon tape is more or less inert and also very thin so I think it would be a good place to start.

I have an aluminum .22 can. My .22 stays dirty as using a dental pick is more work than I'm willing to do. In fact, did more harm than good. I've read people do not need to be so anal about cleaning suppressors, in fact some check the lead buildup by weighing them. Some have even said they work better if a little dirty.

Mentioned in past posts, pre-soaking metal parts and innards with
Maxima 80-81911 DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid
makes cleaning crud off easier by a few
orders of magnitude.

I was just going to use my 7hp pressure washer and see if it can blast away some of the loose stuff.

The "you can't ultrasonic to clean Al" is a myth that keeps getting spread around silencer forums. You can ultrasonic clean any metal, including Aluminum, Titanium, Magnesium, Brass, etc. It's the detergent you're using that needs to be correct for the metal. Ultrasonic cleaners work by creating microscopic cavitation bubbles that dislodge contaminants from the surface of parts. Plenty of Aerospace aluminum has been ultrasonically cleaned and there's a huge market in this process.

I wouldn't, not sure if the Teflon tape would help but I've taken a lot of Cerakote finishes off other titanium tubed suppressors.
I would soak the suppressor in water and Simple Green or whatever Silencerco recommends overnight, drain, blow air through both ends, use the tiniest amount of RemOil to coat things... too much and you could over-pressure a sealed rifle can, and then run two 30 round mag dumps through it. When cool tap both ends on a wooden shooting bench and see if any more crud comes out. Its been said many times by people that really know suppressors that most suppressors run a bit quieter with a thin coat of carbon on the baffles or monocore. It seems to be true to my ears with .22 and center fire pistol caliber cans but I can't really tell with rifle cans.
